Sutton Green party statement on Sutton’s Council’s plans to transfer The Lodge, Honeywood Walk Carshalton, to Ecolocal on a long lease in accordance with the blueprint set out the 2015 asset transfer agreement.
Sutton Green party fully supports Sutton’s Council’s plans to transfer The Lodge, Honeywood Walk Carshalton, to Ecolocal on a long lease in accordance with the blueprint set out the 2015 asset transfer agreement. Ecolocal, whose plans went to community consultation and returned a 97% approval rate, carry out services and benefits to the local community each year estimated to be worth over £3 million annually. Their plans are also set to benefit dozens of local community groups who have expressed an interest in using the facilities in the building when refurbished.
The Green party contends that for an estimated £1 million one-off discount to the market figure local people are getting a tremendous return, not just in safeguarding a key building in Carshalton’s conservation area, but in a range of community benefits and services that Ecolocal will be able to continue to deliver with their own future safeguarded. We applaud Ecolocal for their continuing contribution to community cohesion in our borough and welcome the news that their future as a sustainable charity, along with their ability to deliver those services, should be secure.
